A new GMP Mini Police cohort has officially launched at St Luke’s Primary School in Longsight, marking an exciting milestone for the school, pupils and local policing teams.
The children were welcomed into the scheme at an official attestation ceremony, where 10 year six pupils proudly took on their roles as Mini Police officers.
The children were sworn in in front of their peers, teachers, parents and guardians and heard from local officers about what they should expect to get up to throughout the programme.
PC Scott Schofield, PCSO Martina Loratim-Uba and PC Ellie Doggett are the team working alongside the school to ensure the children get the most out of the scheme.
It was a tough job choosing the final 10 pupils from the hordes of applications the school received when the opening went live.
The children were asked what they would like to improve in their community with answers including: “littering”, “traffic”, “being brave and talking kind to others”, “noise levels”, “graffiti”, and “for people to feel more safe in the community and not frightened”.
After listening to what was important to the children, our neighbourhood officers wasted no time getting started and organised for the mini officers to head out on their first operation just two weeks after their attestation.
