1.2 million workers, the majority low-paid women will get access to statutory sick for the first time today as new measures brought in by the Government take effect
A further 8.4 million will get sick pay from the first day of illness instead of having to wait four days as part of the new measures
There will Stronger penalties for employers who breach redundancy rules, Day-one parental leave rights,Easier union recognition and Whistleblowing protection for workers reporting sexual harassment
There is also a New day-one right to up to 52 weeks’ unpaid leave if a partner dies after childbirth/adoption.
The two-child cap has been formally scrapped from today
New claimants for Universal Credit with limited capability for work (LCW) will receive the lower rate of £217.26 per month. Existing claimants, those with severe/lifelong conditions, or those near end-of-life will continue to receive the higher rate of £429.80.
Pension payments have increased by nearly 5%
The government is investing £3.5 billion in employment support by the end of the decade, including 1,000 work coaches offering voluntary support to sick or disabled people.
