A Right/Left Project is set to unveil their latest deep listening experience, sanctum, at Dunham Massey for a limited one-week run.

This immersive installation invites visitors to step into a tranquil world where sound, light, and water come together inside the serene setting of the historic chapel.

Fresh from a celebrated debut at the inaugural London Experience Week, sanctum now finds its spiritual home at Dunham Massey — offering guests a rare opportunity to slow down, tune in, and reconnect with themselves and their surroundings. sanctum is a bespoke creation produced by internationally-acclaimed artists Colin Nightingale and Stephen Dobbie, together A Right/Left Project.

“In today’s fast-paced world, it’s easy to lose touch with the deeper rhythms that shape our lives,” says Colin Nightingale, co-creator of A Right/Left Project. “After a successful pop-up in London, we feel very fortunate to now be invited to create a space where visitors can appreciate the interplay of sound and light in the chapel at Dunham Massey to guide them toward a more reflective and grounded state.”

Through carefully designed soundscapes and visual elements, sanctum transforms the chapel into a contemplative sanctuary — encouraging stillness, presence, and introspection.

“Throughout our careers, we’ve explored how sound influences the way we perceive and interact with the world,” adds Stephen Dobbie. “We hope that sanctum, embedded in the spiritual heart of Dunham Massey, will encourage visitors to look, feel, and reflect in their own unique way — allowing the sound and environment to ripple through them in an immersive meditative space.”

Religion was central to life at Dunham Massey, the Presbyterian influences of the Booths influenced politics of the time, family life and the interior of the house. The lack of adornment in the chapel is designed to focus the mind on higher matters which makes an ideal location for sanctum.

“sanctum brings a quiet power to the chapel at Dunham Massey.” says Katie Clayton, Programming and Visitor Experience Manager.

“It’s a historic space already steeped in stillness and reflection, and this installation deepens that experience in a way that feels both contemporary and restorative. We know how important moments of pause and presence are for wellbeing, and sanctum offers just that. A chance for visitors to slow down, reconnect, and experience the chapel in a completely new light.”

sanctum is included in the house admission price. No pre-booking is required.
