A new exhibition which opens today explores part of Bolton’s Industrial Heritage.

The Mills Mines Machinery Art Exhibition features original artwork by the Blackrod Art Group depicting the legacy of industrial Bolton.

Members of the group researched archive collections and visited the Bolton Steam Museum and other local industrial heritage locations to come up with ideas for the exhibition.

Several members of the group with mill workers among their ancestors also brought along fascinating pieces of memorabilia, including a 100 page book produced by the Amalgamated Cotton Mills Trust in 1920, all of which became invaluable sources of reference material and inspiration.

The group produced a number of preliminary sketches and then worked up a series of selected ideas into 50 final paintings that will be exhibited to members of the public up until the end of March.

The Mills Mines Machinery Art Exhibition is open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm from Monday 2nd February to Tuesday 31st March, 2015 at The Gallery at St. George’s House, 2 St. George’s Road, Bolton BL1 2DD. Admission is free.
