Two men have been arrested following a fatal stabbing in Newton Heath yesterday evening.
A man in his 20s was taken to hospital with serious injuries after the incident on Gilmerton Drive around 7.30pm, the victim sadly died in hospital this morning
A man aged 35 has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody for questioning.
A man aged 44 has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. He also remains in custody for questioning.
Chief Inspector Peter Crowe from GMP’s City of Manchester district said: “Two men have been swiftly arrested after a man was fatally stabbed last night on Gilmerton Drive. They remain in police custody for questioning.
“This morning, the victim has sadly died in hospital from his injuries. We send our deepest condolences to his loved ones, and they remain in our thoughts.
“We understand this tragic incident will have shook our communities and we want to reassure people that we will not tolerate violence and use of weapons on our streets. We will not stop until we find offenders and bring them to justice.
“Our residents deserve to feel safe to go about their daily lives without fear. Over the following days the community will see an increased policing presence in this area; we will be out to offer support as they would rightly expect us to.”
