More than 70 MP’s have signalled their opposition to the introduction of so-called vaccine passports that the government is considering bringing in to help to open the economy as it starts lifting COVID-19 lockdown restrictions.

According to the Daily Telegraph trials of COVID passports would begin within weeks during pilots at major sports events including the FA Cup final and possibly the Brits ceremony in the next two months to assess their impact.

“We oppose the divisive and discriminatory use of COVID status certification to deny individuals access to general services, businesses or jobs,” the MPs, backed by campaign groups like Big Brother Watch, Liberty and Privacy International, said in a statement”.

The fear is that the vaccine passports plan reduces freedoms and could leave vulnerable groups segregated.
