Greater Manchester Mayor and Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Lloyd is inviting communities across the region to bid for a slice of £200,000 to help build safer neighbourhoods.
This is the second wave of community funding for 2016. It will see grants of up to £5,000 being given to projects that help reduce crime and anti-social behaviour in their local area.
Tony said: “Local people have the ideas and passion needed to make a real difference in their communities, but they need support to bring their plans to life.
“We’ve seen the terrible impact of cuts to our public services which have been imposed by central government. With public and voluntary agencies feeling the bite, it’s local people that end up suffering. With these grants, we can help people to help themselves, and at the same time reduce demand on stretched public services.”
This second wave of funding builds on the success of the “community chest” launched earlier this year. In June, hundreds of projects across Greater Manchester received a share of £900,000, each designed to help make their neighbourhoods safer and reduce demand on policing.
Back in 2015, Tony’s inaugural Youth Aspiration Fund issued £600,000 to projects designed to empower young people and help them make positive life choices.
The closing date for applications is 4pm, 22 September.
