Magical brewery tour in Seligenstadt
The cozy, half-timbered town of Seligenstadt is home to a unique piece of history: the Glaabsbräu Brewery, founded in 1744 and the oldest brewery in southern Hesse. Today, it is one of the most modern breweries in Germany, offering tours that stimulate all the senses, including a “magical tour” guided by a real magician! The privately owned brewery is situated in the middle of the Offenbach region, which is about a half hour’s drive from Frankfurt. This beautiful town is on the Main, the river that borders the neighboring state of Bavaria. Also worth visiting is the Einhardbasilika, a former Benedictine abbey dating back to between 830 and 840 AD, surrounded by a colorful garden including a well-stocked herb garden. This town so close to Frankfurt is a must-see. A historical guided tour is highly recommended—with or without beer!

Limburg-Weilburg, the green oasis
Have you ever considered Frankfurt and its surroundings a green oasis? No? Well, then it’s time you rethought that. Actually, Frankfurt is a very green city with pristine nature right on its doorstep. One of the most idyllic areas is a one-hour drive to the northwest of Frankfurt. The area around the Limburg-Weilburg district is perfect for hiking, cycling, or canoeing on the Lahn. The Lahntalradweg (a cycling trail) and Lahnwanderweg (a hiking trail) are unique outdoor experiences. A historic highlight worth mentioning is Limburg Cathedral: the red-and-white church, a true gem among German churches, sits enthroned above the Lahn.

New art nouveau permanent exhibition in Wiesbaden
Museum Wiesbaden is truly a beacon in the museum landscape. As from this year, it will host a permanent exhibition boasting around 700 unique art nouveau works, including the Ferdinand Wolfgang Neess collection, one of the most essential art nouveau collections gathered over more than 40 years. Furniture, glass, ceramics, lamps, paintings, silver—all are represented in this exhibition, making it a diverse and exciting experience. The Wiesbaden Tourist Board has organized attractive group and individual packages, which are well worth exploring.

The historic green strip of Aschaffenburg
Aschaffenburg, situated in Bavaria and only 40 minutes away from Frankfurt, is home to eight historical parks stretching like a green ribbon from the southwest to the northeast ends of the town. Nilkheim Park lies in the southwest of Aschaffenburg. The grounds and buildings were rebuilt and restored in the 1960s. This public park is a popular meeting place in the summer, particularly on events such as Children’s Culture Day. Bordering Nilkheim Park is Schönbusch Park, one of the oldest and most beautiful English landscape parks in Germany. Schöntal Park is a lovely place to relax right in the heart of the town, perhaps after an extended shopping spree. A particularly romantic spot is the beguinage ruins reflected in the lake. These and the other beautiful parks are just one of the many reasons to visit this part of Bavaria, not to mention the good German beer!

The flavors of fall: Game and Wine Festival in the Spessart
Spessart Mainland, a green area rich in natural beauty, is the ideal place to indulge the palate. The Game and Wine Festival from September 14 to October 27, 2019, is an opportunity to savor excellent food and drink, and also to explore the gorgeous landscape. Restaurants from the surrounding cities, including Bad Orb (a famous spa city), Heimbuchenthal, Gemünden, and Aschaffenburg, participate in the festival and serve three variations of their top-notch game creations. Exhibition in Frankfurt: MAKING VAN GOGH
Frankfurt. What a diverse city!
