Manchester City Council want to invite local communities to dust off the bunting and host street parties to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee from Thursday 2 June to Sunday 5 June.
The Platinum Jubilee celebrates Queen Elizabeth’s seventy years of service to the British people and there will be a wide range of activities taking place during the extended bank holiday weekend.
To ensure that the fun doesn’t stop there, funding is available for local groups who want to host street parties and Manchester City Council will waive the road closures fee for the Jubilee weekend.
Deadline to submit an application to close a road is Friday 22 April.
Manchester City Council will be hosting a Platinum Jubilee jamboree on the bank holiday weekend, more details will be revealed in the coming weeks.
Chief Executive of Manchester City Council, Joanne Roney OBE, said:
“It is a historic milestone to reach jubilee, and the extended bank holiday weekend will be a perfect time to celebrate a lifetime of service. We know Mancunians will want to celebrate, this is your chance to put on a good old fashioned street party, get family, friends, neighbours together for a once in a lifetime party.
“I’d encourage those who want to have a street party to submit their road closure form as soon as possible and apply for funding to ensure that their street party is fitting of this momentous occasion.
“I hope that Mancunians across the city come together to celebrate and have a great time in June!”
