When Manchester United take on Everton at Old Trafford on Sunday it will mark the 4,000 consecutive games in all competitions that a homegrown player will be in the matchday squad.

It all started back on 30th October 1937 when Tommy Manley who played outside left and Jack Wassall who was an inside forward started away at Fulham.

Youth players have always been a feature from then for the Reds. Players such as Stan Pearson, John Aston, Sir Bobby Charlton, Nobby Stiles, David Sadler, Norman Whiteside and Mark Hughes all kept the streak going over the years.

The Class of ’92 came and the streak continued. Ryan Giggs, David Beckham, Gary and Phil Neville, Nicky Butt all played big parts.

It continued after with Darren Fletcher and later Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard.

The future of the streak seems in good hands with players like Marcus Rashford establishing themselves as key players in the team and others such as Mason Greenwood, Brandon Williams and Axel Tuanzebe with bright futures at the club.
