200 cabs in Manchester will be carrying life-saving emergency bandages that could help prevent someone bleeding to death following an accident.

Former soldier and policeman Alex Chivers, has launched Rapaid Emergency Bandages and as part of the launch, has donated 200 to Manchester’s Mantax cabs. Designed to do just one thing, to save lives, these are very simple to use and can be applied in just one minute by anyone, with no medical training required. Used by the military, they have a proven track record and are the most effective way to stop serious bleeding, buying valuable time for any casualty.

Alex Chivers is aiming to place Rapaid Bandages in as many locations as possible, from offices, shopping centres and stadiums to farms, factories, schools and colleges, as well as taxis, buses and trains. “Every day, people sustain life threatening accidents that result in serious blood loss, which if not stopped quickly, can be fatal. It takes just three minutes to bleed to death from an arterial wound, yet the average time, (with traffic etc) for paramedics to arrive can be up to 10 minutes. Having 30 years of professional service in both the British Special Forces and, more recently, as a Police firearms officer and tactical commander, I am passionate about finding an innovative simple solution that could help save lives and I believe that Rapaid Emergency Bandages can offer just that”, says Alex.

Superintendent Chris Hill of the City of Manchester Division said, “This is a great initiative that GMP supports across the whole of Greater Manchester. Anything that increases public safety and helps to prevent fatalities is a good thing and even though I hope these will not be needed, if injuries do occur, the bandages have the potential to stop serious bleeding until an ambulance arrives.”

The Rapaid Emergency Bandages will be kept in the drivers’ cabs. Clearly identified by a window sticker so they can be readily accessed by either a member of the public or emergency services.
