Manchester-based surgical director Dr Matee Rajput has announced the opening of the Samr Trust Hospital in memory of his late father who sadly passed away from coronavirus

Dr Matee Rajput may be best known as the UKs leading celebrity hair transplant surgeon, with a string of high-profile clients under his belt, however now the surgical director has turned his hand to a new venture in memory of his late father as he announces the opening of the Samr Trust Hospital.

In 2021, Sana Ullah sadly lost his life after contracting covid-19. It was always Mr Ullah’s dream to one day open a hospital in the deprived area of Pakistan where he grew up, before emigrating to the UK in the early 90s with his family.

Now Dr Matee and his brothers, who are the co-founders of the Samr Trust, have made their fathers dream come true and have this week announced the opening of the Samr Trust Hospital in Punjab, Pakistan.

With the hospital expected to provide medical care to over 40,000 locals, it is set to open in three phases over the coming months.

The first phase began this week and involves outpatients and pharmacy services, with phases two and three to follow, which include emergency care, labs and investigation units, four inpatient wards, a minor ops theatre, a maternity ward and an intensive care unit.

The hospital build, equipment and running costs are being fully funded by the Samr Trust charitable organisation, with the build itself taking 18 months for construction to be completed.

The land on which the hospital has been built was purchased by the late Mr Ullah using funds from the sale of his UK home of which he resided since 1990.

The Samr Trust now estimate that 80% of the hospital’s patients will receive free access to medical care via registering for a medical card – with the remaining 20% expected to pay for their treatment.

The hospital build began in 2022 and to-date has cost approximately £1M, including the development and construction of the hospital as well as installing all of the medical equipment and technology required for its operation.

Speaking about the opening of the Samr Trust Hospital, Dr Matee said: “It was always our fathers dream to open a hospital in Punjab, a very poor and deprived area of Pakistan where he spent much of his younger years before emigrating to the UK.”

“He would always remind us not to forget anyone who came to us for help and was a very generous and charitable man that cared for the wellbeing of complete strangers in the same way he cared for his own family.”

“This dream began 40 years ago and is a gift and a blessing for the community of Punjab. We have been overwhelmed with the response so far – and already have a waiting list of patients in need of medical care and support, which clearly demonstrates how vital this kind of facility is within this community.”

“18 months ago the site of the Samr Trust Hospital was just fields of crops purchased by my father with funds from the sale of his UK home – and now we’re able to offer a level of medical care that the many locals within this area of Pakistan will never have experienced before in their lifetime.”

“We’re opening the hospital in three stages, stage one is already in progress and over the coming months stages two and three will follow, opening up a range of much needed medical wards and labs that will completely change the lives of the people of Punjab.”

“It is our honour and privilege to open this hospital in our father’s memory and we look forward to supporting this community for many, many years to come.”

The Samr Trust is funded solely by donations – any donations to help continue the work of the Samr Trust and further their efforts would be greatly appreciated. Please visit www.samrtrust.org to learn more about the Samr Trust’s many charitable projects and to donate.
