The Manchester MP Afzal Khan who resigned from Kier Starmer Shadow Ministry team to vote for a ceasefire in the Middle East has welcomed the news overnight of a pause in the fighting

Israel will receive 50 women and children hostages in exchange for a four-day pause in hostilities with Hamas. Around 150 Palestinians jailed in Israel are to be released as part of a four day pause in hostilities

In a statement the Gorton MP said

I welcome the news of an agreement between Isr release the first set of hostages and pause hostilit humanitarian aid.

This agreement is an extremely important first step in the direction towards securing peace in the region.

However, we must be clear: there is nothing humi pause in bombing hospitals, schools and refugee premature babies, aid workers and journalists.

The only truly humanitarian option is a full ceasef international support to ensure a long-term peac to deliver a sustainable two-state solution
