honour of World Mental Health Day, this past weekend, a collective of 52 hotels across Greater Manchester showed their support for a mental health initiative that helps people working in the hospitality industry.

The fourth annual ‘Walk for Wellbeing’ took place across the UK on Sunday 8th October and the Manchester Hoteliers Association (MHA) hosted the Manchester event in aid of Hospitality Action.

The 20km walk set off at 10am from Sale Water Park to raise vital funds for supporting individuals and their families in the hospitality sector, who are facing challenging times. Across the UK, the event has raised over £80,000, with Manchester so far raising £4,330.

The initiative aims to promote health and wellbeing in the hospitality industry and MHA, which is a non-profit organisation of key hotels across Greater Manchester, will be leading the day, inviting friends and colleagues to participate.

Other cities that took part included London, Birmingham, Bristol/Bath and Glasgow.

Adrian Ellis, chair of the Manchester Hoteliers Association and General Manager at The Lowry Hotel, said: “Supporting Hospitality Action is a no brainer for us. Particularly in an unstable economic climate, it’s important that our hospitality workers feel supported in every aspect and that’s why we were thrilled to play a part in the Walk for Wellbeing.

“Our aim was to bring as many people together as possible on 8th October to collectively make a positive impact on the vital work that Hospitality Action does, and with a turnout of over 100 people, I’m pleased to say we did just that.”

Those who couldn’t make it over the weekend can still ‘Walk It Your Way’ at a location of their choice any time until Sunday 15 October. More information on the initiative can be found here.
