Manchester-based charity, Prevent Breast Cancer, has joined forces with female business leaders across the city in a bid to raise awareness, as well as vital funds for the charity.

The Rowan Empowering Women Network Group, a collective designed to bring together senior female leaders in Manchester, will work with the charity to deliver a programme of events, as well as aiming to raise more than £10,000 in fundraising activities over the next year.

Its roster of events was kicked off in March at Bonded Warehouse in a session that saw Coronation Street’s Sally Dynevor, a patron of Prevent Breast Cancer, deliver a talk about her personal journey with breast cancer.

Throughout the year, the group will work with its members which include leaders from key Manchester businesses such as Nbrown, to raise funds through activities including a summer afternoon tea networking event, charity dinner, and exclusive prize draws.

All events will also help to spread the charity’s key messages around the signs and symptoms, causes, and awareness on how to check yourself for breast cancer.

All funds raised as part of the partnership will go towards Prevent Breast Cancer’s ‘Build to Beat Breast Cancer’ appeal which is a joint venture with the Manchester Foundation Trust Charity. The campaign is working to raise £3.5 million for a new dedicated building for the National Breast Imaging Academy which will help to address severe shortages in the breast imaging workforce.

Nikki Barraclough, executive director at Prevent Breast Cancer, said: “We’ve seen amazing success with our NBIA campaign already, but the partnership with the Rowan Empowering Women Networking Group will help us get even closer to our £3.5million target.

“We are excited to be a part of these inspiring networking events which connect empowered women to share stories and raise awareness. We admire the group’s approach of connecting women in business and are thrilled to be working closely with such an amazing group of females. We’d like to thank the group for their involvement in the campaign.”

Prevent Breast Cancer, based in Manchester, is the only UK charity funding groundbreaking research exclusively aimed at preventing breast cancer. Prevent Breast Cancer funds risk reducing research including research into genes and preventative drugs, whilst raising awareness of signs and symptoms of breast cancer, early detection and screening.
