“The whole point of the framework is to allow people to make their own decisions about whether to travel or not, confident in the knowledge that it would be safe” says Manchester Airport CEO Charlie Cornish in response to the unclear guidelines over foreign holidays 

The traffic light system was signed off by the UK’s four Chief Medical Officers to provide a safe framework for international travel based on different levels of risk in green, amber and red countries.

“It is simply unacceptable for some ministers and officials to seek to discourage international travel, based on their own interpretations of government policy. said Mr Cornish

Earlier in Parliament Labour leader Sir Kier Starmer said the Government had “lost control of the messaging” over the amber list and questioned why 170 countries are on it if they are off limits.

He demanded “absolute clarity” about travel to amber list destinations, in the wake of conflicting advice from ministers

In reply Boris Johnson said that should not be going to an amber list country except for some extreme circumstances, such as the serious illness of a family member, you should not be going to an amber list country for holiday,
