A 24 year old man has been jailed after committing sexual offences against three women he had met on a night out in Farnworth

The three women were out in Farnworth, Bolton enjoying a night out in the early hours of July 2023. They met the defendant, Tyler Smith, in a pub, and after several hours, they all decided to go back to a house together.

When they got there, Smith began to make unwanted advances against one of the women. She told him not to touch her, but he made no response and no efforts to acknowledge her discomfort.

A short while later, this woman decided to leave and she got a taxi home, another one of the women went to sleep in one of the bedrooms and the third woman decided she also wanted to go home. She went to order a taxi when Smith cornered her in the kitchen and tried to kiss her. As she tried to move away, he continued to grab her, saying he knows that she wants him.

She repeatedly told him to stop but he forced himself on her, against her will, and raped her.

Understandably frightened, she woke her friend up and they asked Smith to leave the house. In retaliation, Smith proceeded to get incredibly angry with the women, all of which was captured on mobile phone footage.

Tyler Smith (27/07/2000) of no fixed abode pleaded guilty to sexual assault and rape. He appeared at Minshull Street Crown Court yesterday (Monday 2 December) where he was sentenced to five years and five months in jail. He will also be on the Sex Offenders Register for life.

Detective Constable Jon Liversage from Bolton Criminal Investigation Department said: “We know that coming forward to report sexual offences can be difficult, but no one should ever feel alone in such circumstances, and we will do all we can to provide you with the necessary support and help get justice.

“Smith took it upon himself to sexually assault two women, despite them expressing that they did not consent. This comes as a reminder to everyone to respect personal boundaries and consent. We would ask that to anyone out there who has witnessed, been a victim of, or knows about a similar incident comes forwards and trusts that we will listen to you.

“Smith continued to deny his actions throughout his interviews, but thanks to the victims, they’ve been able to help support a successful prosecution and ensure Smith now faces time behind bars for his actions. It cannot be understated how brave and resilient the victims were throughout this investigation and I thank them for assisting us in bringing Smith to justice.

“Anyone that has been a victim of a sexual offence, is concerned for the safety of someone they know, or suspects someone to be engaging in this criminal activity, should come forward and speak to us. We have a team of dedicated officers and staff who will expertly and compassionately deal with your reports, and we will do everything we can to bring offenders to justice.”
