Work to bring major improvements to Bury Market will mean night-timeclosures of a stretch of Angouleme Way.
The eastbound carriageway, from Murray Road to Spring Street, will be closed to traffic from 7pm to 6am on certain evenings for up to 32 weeks, starting on Sunday 23 February. Overnight closures in February will be on 23, 24, 25 and 27 February.
Diversions routes will be clearly signed, and alternative routes will be via Angouleme Way (westbound), Jubilee Way, Peel Way, Derby Way and Rochdale Road, via Market Street, Wellington Road, Parkhills Road, Heywood Street and Rochdale Road or via Market Street, Parkhills Road and Manchester Road.
Motorists travelling between these times and on these dates are advised to allow more time for their journey.
The reason for the temporary overnight road closures is to allow new canopies to be delivered and lifted by crane onto Bury Outdoor Market, starting with the steel frames and then the timber undersides of the canopies.
Any disruption will be minimised as all closures will be outside the busiest travelling times and won’t be on market days.
Closures will also be weather dependent as the heavy lifting required cannot go ahead during windy weather.
