New contemporary arts and heritage centre unveiled within God’s House Tower – Southampton’s historic stalwart

Benefiting from a £3.1 million restoration fund, the impressively named God’s House Tower will unveil a full programme of contemporary art-focused events within its interactive museum setting this summer.

Part of Southampton’s medieval city wall and fortifications, the heritage venue has lived through many reincarnations and in its new guise it will interpret the city’s history – both past and living – through a revolving programme of exhibitions and events.

Built in 1415 it has been an integral part of the Southampton’s evolution. From a south coast defence lookout and storage tower for gunpower and cannons to the town gaol, a temporary mortuary, warehouse and more recently Southampton’s Museum of Archaeology, before becoming an arts and heritage centre.
