As the debate over cuts to welfare continues in the House of Commons, one of the fiercest critics of the measures Salford MP Rebecca Long-Bailey has given an impassioned speech
Telling the House that the cuts must be scraped he said that
The true measure of a society is how it treats its most vulnerable.
“Aside from the economic and procedural arguments (of which there are many) it just isn’t morally right to push hundreds of thousands of disabled people into poverty.” she said adding that despite the concessions and the exclusion of existing claimants the measures she said will still push vulnerable and disabled people into movement with existing claimants left living in fear that if their situation changes they will be plunged into poverty
Meanwhile it is being reported that ahead of the vote Keir Starmer has approved a further concession to the Labour rebels,
