London Concertante returns to Manchester this September with a brand-new production: Ella and Friends — a richly orchestrated tribute to the Queen of Jazz, Ella Fitzgerald, presented in the atmospheric setting of candlelight.
Taking place on Sunday 14th September at 7:30 PM, the performance marks the opening of London Concertante’s 2025 Manchester season.
Ella and Friends features acclaimed jazz vocalist Emma Smith, recently crowned Jazz Vocalist of the Year at the 2024 Parliamentary Jazz Awards.
Smith is a celebrated performer who has sung alongside Michael Bublé, The Quincy Jones Orchestra, Bobby McFerrin, and Gregory Porter. A member of the Ronnie Scott’s All Stars, she brings her dazzling voice and charisma to Manchester in this heartfelt tribute to the Queen of Jazz.
Backed by an expanded orchestral line-up including harp, trumpet, cor anglais and drum kit, the programme features lush new arrangements by David Gordon, Ali Vennart, Alan Gout and others — blending classical textures with jazz soul.
Audiences will be treated to timeless interpretations of Fitzgerald’s best-loved songs, alongside tributes to her contemporaries including Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, and Nina Simone.
