Local lockdowns are like the song Hotel California according to the Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham

Speaking on Sky News this morning, the Mayor criticised the Government’s so called whack a mole strategy saying that it wants to stop spread of coronavirus by imposing local restrictions, but they’re rarely lifted, because infection rates keep rising.

Like the Eagles song he says “ once you’re in, you can never leave.”

The national lockdown he told the programme was lifted too early for the north of England adding that the decision to lift lockdown was done with London in mind.

“Local restrictions” he said “should come with local control of the test & trace system.”
