Labour is now the largest party on Bolton Council, however the local authority remains under No Overall Control however, meaning no party has a majority of seats.

The former Oldham Council leader Sean Fielding won a seat for Labour in Breightmet ward and now has a seat on Bolton Council

Stickport saw its first ‘all out’ council election count in nearly 20 years with 63 seats up for grabs across 21 wards.

The Lib Dems are the largest party but the council still remains under No Overall Control

The bigger story saw The Tories wipeout and for the first time Stockport has no Tory councillors since it was born as a local authority in 1974

Labour lost 3 seats in Edgeley to the newly formed Edgeley Community Association, founded by ex Labour councillor Matt Wynne.

The Greens won all 3 seats in Reddish South, a gain of 1 from Lab

In Tameside there were remarkable scenes as the returning officer had to draw a lot to decide who the third councillor for Hyde Godley will be and the Conservatives won the seat.

In Manchester all three councillors in the Wythenshawe ward of Woodhouse Park are Greens after Anastasia Wiest’s victory over Labour while the Lib Dems gained Ancoats and Beswick from Labour after Chris Northwood triumphed over Majid Dar

They also had success in Didsbury West where former councillor Richard Kilpatrick regained his seat

In Salford a sitting Liberal Democrat councillor has been elected in the Cotswolds

Chris Twells, who won a seat on Salford council last year in the Ordsall ward for the Lib Dems, stood as a “paper candidate” in the Cotswolds and won as well.

Across the country The BBC’s projected national share of the vote gave Labour its highest lead over the Conservatives in local elections since 1997, with Labour on 35%, the Tories on 26%, Lib Dems 20% and other parties 19%.

The Conservatives have lost control of more than 20 councils and 640 seats, while Labour has so far gained 327 seats. The Liberal Democrats have made gains of 230 seats,

Labour has taken control of Medway, Dover, Swindon, Blackpool, Plymouth, Stoke-on-Trent and East Staffordshire.

The Lib Dems gained Stratford-on-Avon, Dacorum, and Windsor and Maidenhead.

In Hartlepool where Labour has replaced the Conservatives as the largest party, making significant gains in an area where it lost a by-election in 2021.

The council remains in no overall control but Labour seats are up from 11 to 18.
