The Electoral Commission has advised the government that May’s local and mayoral elections should be delayed until the autumn.

It says there are “risks” to delivery and that it can’t be confident “voters will be able to participate in the polls safely and confidently, nor that campaigners and parties will be able to put their case to the electorate.”

Greater Manchester’s voters are due to vote for its Mayor with Andy Burnham standing for re-election

Health Secretary Matt Hancock however says
there are no plans for May’s elections to be delayed, local authorities should plan as normal, but he would always advise people to get a postal vote if they are concerned.
