Oldham MP Jim McMahon appointed yesterday has announced that the term “levelling up” has been scrapped

His department the DLUHC is now back to its old name of the Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government

McMahon told BBC Breakfast this morning that the term ‘Levelling Up’ has been scrapped from the Government department as it was ‘never more than a campaign slogan’

The former leader of Oldham Council told the programme that

“It is a reshaping of the department. It is a refocus, but frankly it is also just grown up politics.”

and said that the British public had “had enough of politicians making promises that don’t follow through and don’t make a material difference”.
