Leaked analysis by HS2 predicts the government’s decision to halt key sections of the high speed rail project for two years, will cost at least £366 million & lead to an extra three and a half year delay

According to Sky News

Speaking to the broadcaster shadow Transport Secretary Louise Haigh said that the Conservative government’s delays are costing taxpayers money- and HS2 should be delivered in full.

“The chaotic indecision and mismanagement of 13 years of HS2 has held back £30 billion of economic growth. It’s left an abandoned building site in Euston and it’s holding back economies in the north.”

The Government delay to the crucial Birmingham to Crewe leg announced earlier this year means services won’t arrive in Manchester until at least 2040.

The Chief Executive of the Northern Powerhouse Partnership Henri Murison told Sky News that it’s vital to deliver HS2 ASAP.

“The lack of connectivity of the north of England, whether it’s east, west or north south, is holding back our productivity. It is the reason why we see this huge gap between London and the rest of our cities.”
