Documents leaked to the Financial Times indicate that the government is planning to deviate from some EU environmental regulations and workers’ right, despite its pledge of a “level playing field”.

The papers drafted by the Department for Exiting the European Union suggest the UK was open to significant divergence from EU standards and also suggests that the commitment in the Withdrawal Agreement Bill (WAB) to EU regulations and workers’ rights “leaves room for interpretation”.

Jenny Chapman MP, Labour’s Shadow Brexit Ministercommenting on a leaked government paper showing the government is planning to diverse from the EU on regulation and workers’ rights after Brexit, said:

“These documents confirm our worst fears. Boris Johnson’s Brexit is a blueprint for a deregulated economy, which will see vital rights and protections torn up.

“It is also clear Boris Johnson was misleading Parliament earlier this week. You simply can’t trust a word Boris Johnson says.

“Under his proposals, this Conservative Government has no intention of maintaining high standards after we leave the EU.”
