Parliament has approved a landmark “smoke-free generation” law.
Anyone born after January 1, 2009 will never be able to legally buy cigarettes or vapes after the Tobacco and Vapes Bill cleared Parliament.
The legislation effectively means the end of tobacco in the country, the legal age will keep rising every year until smoking disappears entirely.
“This is a historic step that will create a nicotine-free generation,” officials say.
Secretary Wes Streeting has hailed this as a “historic moment for the nation’s health”
The Government will also get new powers to regulate tobacco, vaping and nicotine products, including their flavours and packaging.
