The Labour Party has vowed to reinstate 2030 new petrol car sales ban which was moved on five years by Rishi Sunak

The Shadow business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds told the Labour Party Conference in Liverpool that it would restore “certainty” for the car industry,

Reynolds promised binding targets for councils for new electric chargers, funding for new gigafactories and battery health tests for 2nd hand Electric Vehicles

Labour’s new automotive strategy he promised, will create 80,000 skilled jobs, reliable charging networks, resilient supply chains and battery factories on our shores while accusing the Government of having adopted a curious mix of top down policies with no direction or support for industry to make that transition

Speaking at a fringe event on the economic opportunities of net zero Reynolds said that he “fundamentally disagreed” with the PM’s net zero roll back – says the best way to “maximise opportunities” with the green transition is “stability”. adding that Sunak’s Net Zero roll back is “unforgivable” as it will cost renters more money and has damaged business confidence
