The Labour Party has retained control of Stockport Council despite not being the largest party in the chamber

Local elections gave the Lib Dems the highest number of council seats but the party failed to unseat the present leader of the council Labour’s Elise Wilson in a vote last night thanks to the support of eight Tory Councillors.

In the vote 33 councillors voted against the amendment with 28 for and two abstentions which leaves Labour in power for at least another year
