Andy Burnham’s plans to suspend the Right to buy council houses has been knocked back by his own party

The Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves was asked about the policy during an interview on LBC Radio she said

“It’s an incoming Labour government that would determine the rules around Right to Buy, we have no plans to reform that.”

Burnham announced yesterday that as part of his plans to build 10,000 council houses in four years across the region he would suspend the right to buy scheme which he said would prevent housing stock leaving the system

Right to Buy allows most council tenants to buy their council home at a discount and supporters have said the scheme has helped people climb the housing ladder and secure their families’ financial futures.
