Olympic Champion Keeley Hodgkinson and Urmston born actress Sarah Lancashire are among the people in the region awarded honours by the King in this year’s New Year’s Honours List
800m champion Keely Hodgkinson, who receives an MBE, is one of several medallists to be honoured following the summer games in Paris.
Sarah Lancashire who grew up in Oldham was honoured with an CBE in the New Years Honours, and has described it as an “unexpected surprise”
Others awarded honours in the region include Rachel Davies, co-ordinator of girls football at Altrincham FC, who was awarded the BEM for growing the club’s junior membership from fewer than 100 girls to close to 600 in the past six years.
Amanda Bomsztyk, born and brought up in Prestwich is appointed MBE for services to the Jewish Community in her role as northern regional director of the Community Security Trust
Bury based author and writer Richard O’Neill gained an MBE for services to literature while Deputy Lieutenant and High Sheriff of Manchester Eamonn ONeal was awarded an OBE
