The BBC is offering audiences the chance to put their questions to poet Lemn Sissay in an exclusive online event on Thursday, 23rd July at 6pm.
The event comes ahead of the broadcast of a new documentary about his life. Lemn Sissay – The Memory of Me is part of Alan Yentob’s popular arts series on BBC ONE imagine…
In the programme, Lemn speaks about his life from growing up as a black child with a white foster family in the 1970s and how he became a source of inspiration for many people around the world with his poems.
Lemn Sissay MBE has been chancellor of the University of Manchester since 2015 and runs the Christmas Dinner Project for young care-leavers each year around the country.”

As well as his poetry, the programme covers his time in care and how he was separated from his foster family at the age of 12 and left to fend for himself. It features contributions from some of the well-known names Lemn has shared the stage with, such as Steve Coogan, Benjamin Zephaniah, Linton Kwesi Johnson and Julie Hesmondhalgh, as well as his close network of friends and supporters from his years in care.
