The new Health Secretary Sajid Javid has told MP’s that he sees no reason for extending Covid regulations beyond the 19th July

Javid told the Commons:

“In truth, no date we choose comes with zero risk for Covid. We cannot simply eliminate it, we have to learn to live with it.”

He added that businesses need certainty, and that “every step must be irreversible” and reiterated that “Make no mistake, the restrictions on our freedoms must come to an end. We owe it to the British people,… not to wait a moment longer than we need to.
“With the numbers heading in the right direction… July 19 remains our target date.

“The Prime Minister has said it is our terminus date, for me July 19 is not only the end of the line but the start of an exciting new journey for our country.”

The update came on the day that the U.K. recorded a further 22,868 coronavirus cases and three deaths in the latest 24-hour period.

The number of cases is the highest since January 30, when 23,275 cases were recorded.

Earlier the Prime Minister said that he thoughr that we should continue to take a “cautious but irreversible approach” and use the next few weeks leading up to July 19 to “get another five million vaccinations into people’s arms”.
