The World Health Organization has declared the outbreak of the coronavirus a pandemic.

Speaking during a press conference, WHO’s Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said: “In the days and weeks ahead we expect to see the number of cases, the number of deaths and the number of affected countries to climb even higher.”

He described the situation as “deeply concerning,” with “alarming levels of spread and severity.”

Globally now, close to 120,000 people are now confirmed to have contracted the new coronavirus, with over 4,000 deaths. Countries across Europe and around the world are scrambling to contain the outbreak and protect their economies from lasting damage.
