The FA Cup takes centre stage this weekend in. With the Northern Premier League and below postponed for the next few weeks, it’s the elite clubs that continue to give us our football fix.

Bolton Wanderers will welcome a distraction from League Two football in a tie against Crewe Alexandra. Ian Evatt and his newly assembled team are finding it tough to find their feet. However, a tie against League One opposition may not be the type of game they wanted.

Under new manager Richie Wellens, Salford CIty will again be out to impress their new man in charge as they host Hartlepool United from the National League. Hartlepool have only tasted one defeat so far this season and will relish the chance to test themselves against higher league opposition.

This could be the perfect game for Wellens to come in at, with no impact on the league he can get a good early gauge of his squad.

FC United host League One Doncaster United in one of the ties of the round. It will be on BBC Two at 5:30pm. Neil Reynolds will be hoping for yet more FA Cup magic following their last gasp winner in the last round. Being one of the few ‘non-elite’ clubs left in the cup, they certainly have a point to prove.

Lastly, Wigan Athletic will be hoping that a bit of a cup run will aid their turbulent form in the League. Latic host National League North’s Chorley, who have not won yet in the league and are joint bottom with a single point so far this season. A ‘cup-set’ is the last thing John Sheridan wants to add to this already tough campaign at the DW Stadium.
