On Thursday 18th April independent businesses in Urmston will come together and encourage people to shop local as they put on a night of discounts and special deals to launch their monthly late night shopping event.

From bars and restaurants, fishmongers and record stores, independent businesses in the Trafford suburb have come together as one in an attempt to showcase what the town has to offer. The collection of local businesses have grouped together to promote Indie Urmston, and are encouraging people from Urmston and beyond to try out any local businesses with a range of offers to tempt in new audiences.

There is a whole host of local shops with discounts on offer on 18th April, with independent clothes shops including Fred’s and Little Yu Boutique both offering 10% off from 5pm until close. Those looking for new music to add to their collection could look for something pre-loved from Music for the Soul Records, or for new books visit Urmston Bookshop, both offering 10% off and a later closing time to celebrate independents.

Once the shopping ends some of the tastiest offers include 10% off food at popular BBQ & burger joint Get Chucked, or 10% off food including platters, steaks, pies and more at The Barking Dog.

Beer fans will be spoilt for choice as three beer connoisseurs offer discounts on takeaway purchases on the evening, with deals available from The Assembly, Craft Brewtique and Prairie Schooner. Urmston’s own wine bar, Kelder, will also be offering discounts on the night, with offers on all wineshop purchases until close.

Indie Urmston has been created to support the indie economy of Urmston, and looks to promote the rejuvenation of Urmston as a place to visit. The Trafford suburb is just nine minutes away from the city centre by train, or a five minute drive from the Trafford Centre.

Scott Power, co-founder of Indie Urmston and proprietor of Get Chucked said ‘It is great to see all the independents in Urmston coming together to promote how our town’s offering is growing. It shows that we have a really strong community of local businesses who are willing to work together to encourage people from outside of Urmston to visit, as well as giving locals more of an opportunity to shop local with longer opening hours on a regular basis.’

Businesses centred around Flixton Road, Station Road, and Higher Road are joining together for the monthly event as they work hand in hand to show neighbouring towns what they have to offer.

There has recently been a big food & drink resurgence in Urmston, with the regeneration of Urmston Market, and new local independents opening all the time, such as new cicchetti & pizza place Mulino, The Cheese Court, Kin Bakehouse and independent fishmonger What’s The Catch.

There are also a wealth of independent shops including Rose & Bumble who stock gifts and lovely things for the home, Fouette who specialise in dancewear and renowned tattooists, Seventy-Two Tattoo.

Market 41 is also set to open in the South Manchester suburb soon, and is expected to focus on independents and small restaurants as well as artisanal offerings.

The shops in Urmston will hold a late night shopping event every third Thursday of the month.
