Nicolás Maduro has pleaded not guilty to all the charges he is facing during a court appearance in New York
Maduro told the judge ‘I am innocent, I am not guilty,’ in court appearance on narco-trafficking charges
“I am the President of Venezuela. I consider myself a prisoner of war. I was captured at my home in Caracas,” Reuters quotes him as saying.
Maduro and his wife entered the courtroom without handcuffs.
He has been charged with narco-terrorism, conspiracy, and illegal arms trafficking.
Maduro’s lawyer said he is not seeking bail at this time, but indicated that the defense may return to the issue later.
The lawyer representing Maduro’s wife said his client suffered “serious injuries during the abduction”
United Nations secretary general Antionio Guterres has said he is ‘deeply concerned that rules of international law have not been respected’ referring to Donald Trump’s actions in Venezuela.
