The hunt for a newly born baby that began in the M61 close to Bolton has ended today in a courtroom with jail sentences of 14 years for both the perpetrators

Constance Marten has been jailed for 14 years. Mark Gordon was also jailed for at least 14 years for the manslaughter of their baby Victoria with a further four years on licence

The hunt for the pair began with a car bursting into flames on the M61 with police
finding Marten’s passport and a placenta in a towel on the 5th January 2023 and ended with police finding the body of a baby on an allotment in Brighton nearly two months later

Neither Marten or Gordon have shown any remorse for the death of baby Victoria, His Honour Judge Lucraft told the court.

“In my judgement, there has been no genuine expression of remorse from either of you,” he said.

“Throughout you have adopted the stance of seeking to blame everyone else other than yourselves.”

Addressing Gordon specifically, he said: “You were guarding and evasive in interview.”
