The Prime Minister has told the country that there will be “hundreds of thousands” of jabs available per day by 15 January,

During the Press Conference, Johnson said that by the end of the week there will be over 1,000 GP-led vaccine sites providing jabs and 223 hospital sites doing the same, meaning people should be able to get a jab within a radius of 10 miles of where they live.

Sir Simon Stevens, NHS chief executive said that the situation was ‘incredibly serious’

There are now 50% more COVID inpatients than at the peak of the first wave and this number is increasing “very rapidly” – across every region.

He said that there have been 10,000 new COVID patients since Christmas Day, the equivalent of 20 acute hospitals.

Sir Simon said that there will be three ways people will be invited to get their vaccinations

The first is through GPs, 739 local vaccination sites are up and running and this will be over 1,000 by the end of next week. The second at Hospital hubs .Sir Simon said that there were 206 sites currently and rising so that the “bulk” of hospital sites will be vaccinating by the end of next week.

The third will be in mass vaccination centres such as that opening at the Etihad tennis centre in East Manchester

Over 80,000 people have been trained on these vaccinations, he says. Some 18,000 of them have already started work. St John Ambulance have contributed volunteers to. And the armed forces are involved as well, he says.

Brigadier Phil Prosser, who is coordinating the army’s support for the programme, says his team is embedded in the NHS.

He told the Press Conference that the armed forces have to make sure everyone has access to the vaccine. They have to flexible enough to cope with care homes. They have to manage the logistical problems of keeping the vaccine at the right temperature and they have o make sure that the vaccine is not wasted.
