The Home Secretary has warned the minority of people that are defying the rules on Covid that

“Our police officers are moving more quickly to issue in the fines where people are clearly breaching coronavirus regulations,” she says adding .

“If you do not play your part, our selfless police officers… they will enforce the regulations, and I will back them to do so”.

Patel also said that more than 45,000 coronavirus fines have been issued.

Martin Hewitt, chair of National Police Chiefs’ Council issued a warning to those who are still not following coronavirus regulations, as it was revealed around 45,000 fixed penalty notices have been issued to those not complying.

He said it was “so disappointing to see some of the irresponsible behaviour” happening with a “stubborn number of people have refused to abide by the regulations”.

Asked why the rules in this lockdown aren’t as tough as they were last spring?, the Home Secretary said that the message was clear that the public are to stay at home except for a limited specific reason.

Asked whether there should be a rule on the distanced travelled to exercise,Martin Hewitt said that it was the wrong question to ask,  it would be too difficult to set a distance limit for “local” exercise because it would be hard for police to know where people had come from. he said and  people should ask whether their exercise was essential and safe.

The Home Secretary repeated the government that people should stay at home to protect the NHS and save lives.

Britain reported 1,243 new deaths within 28 days of positive COVID-19 test , making it one of the most deadly days in the country’s battle against the virus. The government also reported 45,533 new cases.
