A care home in Cheadle is inviting the community to a barking mad event.

On Friday 8th March, from 11am-12pm, the team at Care UK’s Abney Court, on Abney Hall Park, is inviting members of the community and their furry friends to a Canine Café.

Attendees will be able to enjoy puppy themed treats and drinks, while being in the company of furry friends. Four-legged guests will be able to enjoy plenty of fuss from residents, the opportunity to play with the other pooches and their very own pup-cake. There will also be garden games and a raffle, giving everyone a chance to win a host of goodies for their four-legged friend.

The home created the event after being inspired by the positive impact animal visits have had on care home residents’ wellbeing and on hearing how much they missed the company of their own pets from their younger years.

Having dogs in the home not only encourages residents to spend time outdoors, leading to physical benefits, but it also helps improve wellbeing too. Many studies have also linked pets with decreased blood pressure and stress.

Amcia Hara, Home Manager at Abney Court, said: “We are looking forward to inviting the local community to our Canine Café.

“Studies have shown that introducing dogs into care homes can help lift people’s mood and increase social interaction. The human-animal bond is powerful in promoting self-esteem and wellbeing – which is exactly why we feel ourCanine Café is set to be a brilliant event.

“Whether you have your own dog or simply an animal lover, we’d encourage you to come along to our event – it’s set to raise the woof!”
