Heaton Park has announced the passing of Bonnie and Josh, our beloved donkeys, following advice of a vet and The Donkey Sanctuary who visited our Animal Centre earlier this morning.
Both were born at Heaton Park and had been steady companions for each other over the last three decades.
Josh reached 29 and Bonnie an incredible 33 years of age – a significant achievement for donkeys. However in their later years both were living with complex health and age-related issues.
In a statement the park said
“Both were so full of personality. Bonnie wanted to share that personality with you, while Josh wanted you to watch from a distance to see what you were missing. Bonnie loved to be stroked and if you stopped, would nudge you to remind you that cuddle time wasn’t over. Josh had developed his favourite spots of grass in the park over the years and when he wanted to stop for a snack, you would know it.”
“They were such kind and gentle souls in Heaton Park and this loss will be felt deeply by all staff, past and present, alongside our visitors.”
