The Health Secretary Matt Hancock has admitted breaking social distancing rules after pictures appeared in a newspaper of him kissing a non-executive director of the Department of Health.

The Sun published pictures of Mr Hancock and Ms Coladangelo kissing in this morning’s paper and said these had been taken in the Department of Health offices in May this year.

Hancock has apologised for letting people down in a statement issued this lunchtime.

He said: “I accept that I breached the social distancing guidance in these circumstances. I have let people down and am very sorry. “

“I remain focused on working to get the country out of this pandemic, and would be grateful for privacy for my family on this personal matter.”

He has declined to say whether he was having an affair with the aide
