young boy who lost his bike at Haigh Woodland Park is smiling again thanks to a sweet gesture from an ice cream man.

Three-year-old Jayden Walsh was left heartbroken when his beloved balance bike got left behind after an Easter Sunday visit to the popular Wigan Borough attraction.

His mother’s appeal for the cycle’s safe return subsequently went viral on social media – with people across the region joining in the search.

Hearing the news, mobile ice cream vendors CJ Ice Cream Limited teamed with park management to track down the family and present Jayden with a brand-new pair of wheels.

Colin Jamieson, director of CJ Ice Cream Limited, said: “We are so happy to help. The story touched us and the whole region! We couldn’t stand by and have Jayden’s memories of Haigh Woodland Park spoiled.”

And there would be double delight for the youngster when his original bike was also returned after being found by another local family!

Relieved mum Alesha Walsh, who had leant the bike up against a fence while she loaded the toddler and their pet puppy into her car, said: “I can’t believe the reaction that the appeal got on social media. So many kind-hearted people came forward with offers of second-hand bikes. It’s great to see Jayden so happy again!”

Haigh Woodland Park general manager Keith Bergman added: “We’re really happy to have played a part in putting an Easter smile back on Jayden’s face… and now he’s got two bikes so it’s all turned out well in the end!”
