Greater Manchester has woken up to snow this morning as snow showers moved east from the Irish Sea overnight

The latest weather forecast predicts that snow will continue to fall until the middle of the morning but there will be a dry spell this afternoon before sleet and rain returns later this evening with snow falling on higher ground

National Highways issued a severe weather alert for the North West and warned freezing temperatures and snow were expected to make roads dangerous from 05:00 GMT on Tuesday.

There are reported delays on many bus routes during this mornings rush hour

“All Stagecoach services. Due to today’s adverse weather conditions, we’re seeing average delays of 35 minutes throughout all routes. Our drivers will be driving at a more cautious pace as some roads remain ungritted. Please allow extra time for your journey.” says the bus operator in a tweet this morning .

Manchester Airport says it is operating as normal despite the cold weather

A couple of schools in the region have closed due to the weather.Philips High School, in Whitefield and , St Peter’s Catholic High School in Wigan
