With Wimbledon just around the corner,Manchester comes to the fire in tennis this weekend with Alexandra Park, is set to show off four new floodlit tennis courts
It is one of thousands of locations across the country for the Great British Tennis Weekend orgainsied by the Lawn Tennis Association and Tennis Foundation
The Great British Tennis Weekend offers free activities to encourage people to pick up a racket and get on court, regardless of age, experience or ability.
The free sessions will take place on Saturday morning from 10am-1pm, activities will include mini tennis, family and adult sessions, and cardio tennis.
The new courts forms part of a wider £5.5 million project in Alexandra Park. The project includes landscaping relating to the park’s original design, the restoration of historical features including both Chorlton Lodge and the Pavilion and the reinstating of the oval lawn and footpaths.
The project will be completed this summer and has been jointly funded by Manchester City Council and the Heritage Lottery Fund, with support funding coming from the England and Wales Cricket Board, the Lawn Tennis Association and Sport England
