The Government is set to snnounce changes to the Disability Benefits system today

The proposed changes to the Personal Independence Payment (PIP) to be announced could include requiring receipts to be provided to claim money back from the state, or offering treatment instead of financial support according to reports.

Other moves could include claimants being stripped of monthly payments and given vouchers instead

Other measures will allow some people to get a basic diagnosis for benefits without a detailed assessment if their condition is obvious or severe.

The plans are being published in a green paper consultation with Mel Stride, the Work and Pensions Secretary giving a statement to the House of Commons tomorrow but the Prime Minister is set to announce part of the plans today as he tries to limit the damage expected from Thursday’s local elections

In an interview with the Times  Stride said “many, many people” should lose their sickness benefits. Stride also said people with mental health issues like “mild depression or anxiety” should be receiving talking therapy and not “a cash transfer.”
