A Greater Manchester Police officer has been dismissed by the force at a disciplinary hearing after it was found she forged a GP note for additional leave through unconfirmed sickness.

Chloe Vose, who worked previously in GMP’s Salford district, did not attend or have representation at the hearing, resigning from the force in April 2023 after joining in September 2020.

At an accelerated misconduct hearing on Thursday 26 October 2023, her actions were deemed to have amounted to gross misconduct.

Evidence showed she reported absent from work as sick in January 2023 and had the relevant note valid for three days. Three days after she stated she was unwell and would not be returning to work, where she created and provided a fraudulent letter purporting to be from her GP to extend her leave of absence.

Throughout that month she provided emails, screenshots and statements that were dishonest before returning to work at the end of the month where a return-to-work interview was conducted and denied the allegations after being challenged by supervisors.

Vose also denied her behaviour amounted to gross misconduct and breached the standards of professional behaviour in writing to the allegations alongside honesty, integrity and discreditable conduct.

In dismissing Vose, Chief Constable Stephen Watson said: “PC Vose has conducted herself throughout this process to clearly design and meet the needs of her own selfish desires.

“She has shown no remorse and tried to lay the blame at the door of the force, blaming others for being unsupportive of her needs.

“As a result, her actions do amount to gross misconduct and have been proven which will undermine public confidence in the police.

“Her actions were deliberate and carried out in a manner that is dishonest and ultimately damages trust through her deceitfulness.

“If she was still a serving officer and had not resigned, I would have had no hesitation in dismissing her with immediate effect.”

Vose’s name has also been added to the College of Policing’s barred list.
