Families looking for a low-cost day out this summer can enjoy a taste of the seaside right in the heart of Manchester, as Printworks launches its free Summer of Fun – running daily throughout August, with extra-special events every Thursday.
With a giant sandpit, deck chairs beneath Europe’s largest digital ceiling and free interactive games running every day, Printworks is offering a city-centre escape that won’t break the bank. The 1,000m² ceiling will beam out beach-themed content including animated visuals, quizzes, and a live leaderboard – creating an immersive summer vibe for kids and grown-ups alike.
A daily highlight is the interactive crowd gaming experience, where up to 100 players at a time can take part in high-energy digital games using just their smartphones – no app required. Simply scan the on-screen QR code to join in. Developed by Manchester-based gaming specialists Piing, these games will transform the Pumpyard into a vibrant digital playground.
In addition to the daily beach-themed fun, every Thursday will bring a brand-new lineup of free, hands-on experiences for families, running from 10am to 4pm in the Pumpyard. With the World’s Largest PAC-MAN and giant games to creative challenges for kids, each Thursday promises a different reason to visit. DJ sets will also provide a lively soundtrack on the 7th and final Thursday of the month.
Kristian Brennan, Marketing Manager at Printworks, said: “We know the school holidays can be tough on families – both in terms of time and money – so we’re proud to offer a month of free entertainment for everyone. There’s something for all ages to enjoy without spending a penny.”
The Thursday schedule includes:
- Thursday 7 August – Soft Touch Archery, a safe and exciting way for all ages to try their hand at archery.
- Thursday 14 August – Giant Games Takeover, with super-sized versions of Jenga, Connect 4 and more.
- Thursday 21 August – The return of the World’s Largest PAC-MAN, giving visitors the chance to play retro arcade games on a massive scale.
- Thursday 28 August – Basketball Challenge, where guests can shoot hoops and compete with friends.
Families can also take advantage of an exciting lineup of activities and offers across many of Printworks’ venues. Enjoy free face painting every weekend at Treetop Golf, Kids Eat Free at Chiquito, £8 kids’ meals at viral sensation Big Licks, and Mighty Mornings at Vue where cinema tickets for children are just £2.49 – making it even easier to plan an affordable day out in the city.
No tickets or bookings are required, but early arrival is recommended – some activities may be subject to capacity.
